Pronouns are a way for people to express themselves and embody their true identities. Addressing patients by their chosen pronouns is not only inclusive care but also respectful and possibly lifesaving.

Congratulations to Dr. Angela Kade Goepferd, chief education officer and medical director of the Gender Health program at Children’s Minnesota, for winning a 2023 Community Pride Award from Lavender Magazine.
I am honored to be selected as the 2023 Grand Marshal for Twin Cities Pride, which should serve as a visible reminder to the young people of this community that they belong, and they deserve access to the health care they need to thrive.
Children’s Minnesota presents the award annually to legislators who champion child health issues at the Minnesota Capitol.
The awards celebrate 20 Minnesota-based women in health care who were nominated by their peers and are paving the way in five areas: collaboration & partnerships, community engagement, health & well-being, innovation, and leadership.
The award is designed to recognize LGBTQ+ individuals who have shown a deep commitment in their personal and professional lives to create space for LGBTQ+ youth to feel safe and empowered to be their true selves.
Every day that I'm in the Children’s Minnesota Gender Health clinic, I hear from patients and families who wonder if they will have to flee our state in order to continue to love and support their transgender child. That’s why I have been to the Minnesota State Capitol several times the past two months fighting to protect and support transgender and gender diverse youth.
