Children’s Minnesota is pleased to announce the opening of its first inpatient mental health unit, located at its St. Paul hospital, starting Nov. 29, 2022. It is expected to care for more than 1,000 children and adolescents annually, serving the urgent mental health needs of the most vulnerable kids in Minnesota and the region.

The next generation of imaging technology allows surgeons to view 3-D images and offers 45 percent reduction in radiation exposure.

Children’s Minnesota is pleased to announce that Dr. Anne Bendel, pediatric neuro-oncologist in the health system’s cancer and blood disorders program, has been named as the Harper Family Foundation Endowed Chair for Novel Therapies and Cancer Research. This honor is thanks to a generous $2 million gift by the Harper Family Foundation.

The annual list was determined by a survey of thousands of licensed doctors in the Twin Cities, based on a list provided by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.

The 22-bed unit at the health system’s St. Paul hospital is expected to serve kids and teens beginning in the fall. Securian Financial’s principal gift is the first corporate commitment to the mental health program at Children’s Minnesota.

The Walter Ramsey Award honors a professional who has given their life’s work to the service of others, who has partnered with CHA to make a marked impact in pediatric health care, and who embodies the core CHA values of: integration, innovation, impact, and involvement.

This September, Children’s Minnesota invites the community to help children fighting cancer and blood disorders by donating to the Shine Bright for Kids fundraising campaign. Donations of any size help support life-saving research, as well as services that ease the care journey for kids and their families, including music therapy and financial assistance.
