Children’s Minnesota is devastated to hear of the passing of Minneapolis police officer Jamal Mitchell. Mitchell was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a shooting on Thursday night. Our sympathies go out to his family and coworkers, as well as to the other, still unnamed, officer who was also shot and wounded.
Minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara said in a statement to media: “Jamal lived a life of purpose and make no mistake; Jamal made a difference in other people’s lives.”
This is the second time this year the Twin Cities area has lost first responders to gun violence. We remember the tragedy in Burnsville from February in which three individuals were killed while – like officer Mitchell – trying to help others.
We are mourning these tragic losses with our community.
