Vikings game day turns into delivery day for family

Game day is exciting for Minnesota Vikings fans. For one family, game day turned into something very memorable as they welcomed their new baby just before kickoff. Vikings super fan John Olson and Liz Glasser shared their story and experience with Children’s Minnesota with the Minnesota Vikings.

John was getting ready to watch the Vikings-Texans game on Oct. 4 when Liz went into labor. Liz gave birth to baby Walker at the Mother Baby Center in St. Paul at 11:29 a.m., shortly before kickoff. Walker was five weeks premature and was transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Children’s Minnesota, where he stayed for one week.

“It was stressful, and obviously you never want to be in that situation, but given the circumstances, we couldn’t have asked for a better group of nurses,” said John of their care team. “They were awesome to Walker and took really good care of him. As a parent, that’s really all you want and look for.”

At Children’s Minnesota, John and Liz received a Vikings Newborn Club welcome gift, which is given to all babies born on Vikings game days.
