Life saving procedure performed at Midwest Fetal Care Center

Gina and Alex were terrified when they learned their unborn sons were suffering from Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), a condition in which two or more genetically identical babies share the same placenta. Left untreated, TTTS has an almost 100% mortality rate. In order to give their sons a fighting chance, Gina and Alex traveled 70 miles from their home to the Midwest Fetal Care Center (MWFCC), which is one of fewer than 20 hospitals in the country to perform fetoscopic laser ablation surgery, a relatively new yet risky in-utero surgery.
