As a mother, former teacher and school administrator, Dr. Stephanie Burrage knows every child is unique. So when we talk about resolving health, education, economic and other disparities, we have to take time to listen to people’s unique experiences, learn their unique needs and create unique solutions. In her first year as Minnesota’s chief equity officer, Dr. Burrage has been doing a lot of listening and learning.
The task force was created to examine inequities in how people experience health care based on race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, age and disability. It identify strategies that ensure all Minnesotans receive care and coverage that is respectful and delivers optimal health outcomes.
To reduce flu vaccination disparities, the Health Equity team and Collective for Community Health at Children’s Minnesota developed a new, data-driven approach to their community vaccine clinics thanks to a grant from the United Health Foundation.
The Health Justice Award recognizes organizations that have successfully implemented a program or intervention to reduce health disparities. Children's Minnesota's health equity team was recognized for championing community-based vaccine clinics for children and families.
The Health Equity team at Children’s Minnesota has been honored as a Top Finalist for the 2023 Bernard J. Tyson National Award for Excellence in Pursuit of Healthcare Equity by The Joint Commission and Kaiser Permanente.
