Expert diagnosis and treatment for all types of pediatric bleeding disorders

We’re the only bleeding disorders program in the region that is focused exclusively on kids from birth to age 21 – and this is important because kids have special bodies with unique needs. Our kid experts provide comprehensive, personalized care that suits each young patient with an inherited or acquired bleeding disorder, so your child receives top-notch care for as long as we’re needed.

Some kids with bleeding disorders need treatment for a short period of time, while others might require life-long care. However long we’re needed, our multi-disciplinary teams provide seamless care with pediatric specialists for all of your child’s needs – from diagnosis through treatment, follow-up and ongoing care.

Conditions we treat

We treat all pediatric bleeding disorders, including:

Save time with multiple appointments scheduled on same day

Save time at medical appointments? That’s right! When our bleeding disorders patients have multiple appointments to schedule, our bleeding disorders team aims to coordinate with families to get them done in one visit. As always, the teams will work together to assess and update your child’s individualized treatment plan, and to develop health and wellness goals. Examples of combined clinic days are:

  • During a bleeding disorder comprehensive clinic, patients and families meet with several specialists in one visit. These specialists may include: hematologist, nurse coordinator, clinical pharmacist, physical therapist, social worker, genetic counselor, dietitian, and more.
  • Hematology-gynecology patients can expect to meet with a pediatric gynecologist and a pediatric hematologist to evaluate and manage your menstrual bleeding and gynecological concerns during these clinic days. The Children’s Minnesota adolescent and young adult (AYA) hematology and gynecology clinic is the only program in the region to focus on this population.

We’re here to help in other ways, too

Managing a pediatric bleeding disorder is crucial to preventing complications – and it can also be challenging for families and caregivers. You don’t have to struggle alone with unanswered questions because our personalized treatment plans prioritize the well-being of your child and family and aim to anticipate future issues so they can be prevented.

We offer addition services in the following areas:

  • Additional information about specific bleeding disorder(s).
  • Genetic counseling.
  • Physical therapy.
  • Support and advocacy through communication with school and work.
  • Prepare for the transition from pediatric to adult health care.
  • Community and education events with the Upper Midwest Bleeding Disorder Alliance, including camps and retreats.
  • Help finding care, financial support, and local resources in a complex medical system.
  • The 340B pharmacy program provides home delivery for medications and supplies, medication counseling, and home infusion services.
